چکیده
Abstract Background: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) targets cortical circuits and has been shown to acutely reduce craving withdrawal symptoms among smokers. However, the efficacy of tDCS as an adjunct smoking cessation pharmacotherapy not studied. This study aimed investigate with anode left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) in combination varenicline for cessation. Methods: was a double-blind, sham-controlled randomized clinical trial where 41 healthy smokers were 1:1 either active (20 minutes at 2 mA; anode=left DLPFC; cathode=right DLPFC) or sham 10 daily sessions over first weeks plus 5 booster sessions, occurring every two weeks. All participants also given 12 standard treatment concurrently tDCS. Target quit date after starting treatment. The primary outcome 30-day continuous abstinence end Results: At treatment, associated higher than (67% vs 38% respectively, p=0.12) completers. Active significantly decreased cigarette consumption time but had no differential effect on nicotine compared sham. There significant adverse events stimulation Discussion: is show cessation, end-of-treatment rate alone. Repeated Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Methamphetamine Craving: a Randomized, Sham-Controlled Study
modulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity using non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), enhanced the prospects of substance use disorders rehabilitation. Methods: we carried out a randomized sham-controlled clinical trial to assess the effect of repeated tDCS at DLPFC on drug craving in 30 abstinent male methamphetamine users. ...
متن کاملA double-blind, sham-controlled trial of transcranial direct current stimulation for the treatment of depression.
Two recent sham-controlled studies found that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) was an effective treatment for depression. As tDCS is painless, relatively safe and inexpensive, its efficacy in treating depression warrants further investigation. This double-blind, randomized study tested tDCS at the same stimulation parameters as a previous positive study (1 mA current strength, fiv...
متن کاملRepetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in delirium: A double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study
Purpose: Delirium is a fatal but potentially reversible disorder of Central Nervous System that adds a lot of costs on health systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of intermittent theta burst stimulation on severity and course of delirium. Methods: This was a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups of ...
متن کاملA perioperative smoking cessation intervention with varenicline: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
BACKGROUND The efficacy of perioperative tobacco interventions on long-term abstinence and the safety of smoking cessation less than 4 weeks before surgery is unclear. Our objective was to determine the efficacy and safety of a perioperative smoking cessation intervention with varenicline to reduce smoking in elective surgical patients. METHODS In a prospective, multicenter, double-blind, pla...
متن کاملA Randomized, Double-Blind, Sham-Controlled Trial of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
BACKGROUND Current standardized treatments for cognitive impairment in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder remain limited and their efficacy restricted. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a promising tool for enhancing cognitive performance in several neuropsychiatric disorders. Nevertheless, the effects of tDCS in reducing cognitive impairment in patients with attention-def...
